If you drive a true four wheel drive (4WD) vehicle, then that means it is equipped with a transfer case. This is one of the things that separate 4WD vehicles from all wheel drive (AWD) vehicles. An AWD vehicle is in AWD mode all of the time and uses three differentials (front, center, and rear). A true 4WD vehicle, on the other hand, can be operated in two wheel drive or 4WD, and uses two differentials and a transfer case.

When the driver switches from two wheel to 4WD, the transfer case is engaged and sends power to both the front differential and the rear differential. Power is then sent to each wheel, giving the driver a 4WD experience.

If you have any questions or concerns about servicing your transfer case or your transmission system in general, then call or visit the service center here at Mullen Motors.
